Lister Community School is a mixed community school. The staff, governing body and pupils of Lister Community School would welcome you applying for a place at our popular school. To do this you must follow the correct process for your child’s age as detailed below.
We are part of Newham Community Learning Trust and London Borough of Newham continues to be our admission authority and all admissions are done through them.

Please be aware of the key dates for year 6 students who have been offered a place at Lister to start in September 2023
Monday 20th March – Admissions form deadline.
Please complete the admissions form emailed to you by the school by this date. You can also find the admissions form here.
Saturday 29th April – Admissions interviews.
You will need to bring documentation to the meeting so that we can photocopy them. We will need to see:
- Your child’s birth certificate
- You child’s passport (if they have one)
- Two pieces of evidence of your current address, not more than three months old. (e.g. driving licence, council tax, utility bill, mobile phone bill, bank statement, etc)
The timings for the day will be according to your child’s current primary school so that we can manage queues.

Free School Meals
All students in Newham receive free school meals at Primary level. When your child joins secondary school, you will need to check your eligibility for this and apply if needed. This has to be completed through Newham, and is not something that we can process as a school. Year 7 Admissions for September 2024
National Closing date for on time year 7 applications is Tuesday 31 October 2023 23:59pm.
National offer date for on time year 7 applicants is Friday 1st March 2024
Parents/carers can visit our school during the open evening and morning events in the new academic year. Please check back for further information about these.
Before submitting a year 7 application we strongly recommend all families read the 2024/25 edition of the local authorities ‘Starting Secondary School’ guide and find out information about the school you are interested in. If possible look at their virtual tours. Further information on the admissions process can be found here.
Students starting Year 7 in September 2024 will have the opportunity to visit Lister Community School during our induction programme which takes place in July 2024.
Pan London Co-ordinated Scheme
In London since 2004, the 33 London boroughs and some of the Home Counties operate a Pan London coordinated scheme 2022/23 (PDF). You can find the link to the Pan London Co-ordinated Scheme.
For all children born between 1 September 2010 and 31 August 2011, their parents/carers must apply for a secondary class place for them to start school in the academic year September 2022/2023.
All year 7 for September 2023 applications must be made through the family’s home local authority. For children living in Newham, families must apply via London Borough of Newham.

Parents/carers can apply for a year 7 place for September 2024 through the eAdmissions website (www.eadmissions.org.uk) from 1 September 2023.

In Year Admissions into Secondary School
(also known as a mid-term and mid-phase admissions)
If you want to apply for secondary school place in Newham outside of the usual times when a child starts a new school you must make an in-year admission application.
This application also needs to be made every term to ensure a child is added to the waiting list for the new school term.
